Fall, Leaves, Fall—Emily Bronte

Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;

Lengthen night and shorten day;

Every leaf speaks bliss to me,

Fluttering from the autumn tree.

I shall smile when wreaths of snow

Blossom where the rose should grow;

I shall sing when night’s decay

Ushers in a drearier day.

It is in the darkness when light shines the greatest. This month we commemorate the great reformation, lest we forget where we have come from. The dark ages were a time of great ignorance. Men and women were not literate as they are today. Only the wealthy, aristocrats and priest class had the privilege of being educated.
It was the aim of William Tyndale that he would cause the boy that drives the plough to know more of the scriptures than the Pope. Thanks to the works of reformers like William Tyndale and Martin Luther and the teachings of the Bible, ushered in a new era of education for the lower classes in Germany, England and beyond.
Martin Luther’s parents sacrifice much for his education. This left an everlasting impression on the value of education to Luther. He believed that education was for everyone since we are all the sons and daughters of God. He made the endeavor to translate the Bible into German so that all could read the Word in their own language. However, it would have been of little use, as the general German population was illiterate. He went about to establish universal education so that everyone could read the Bible for themselves.
In God’s providence, the invention of the printing press was made in Germany by Johann Gutenberg. This invention allowed the printed page to spread like never before. Instead of copying books tediously by hand, the press allowed for faster publications. Books began to circulate and be passed from friend to friend. Books and knowledge began to become a most treasured asset. As time passed, the now educated population, resulted in economic progress of the country due to the study of God’s Word.
“Unvarnished truth must be spoken in leaflets and pamphlets, and these must be scattered like the leaves of autumn.” Ellen G. White, Testimonies for the Church, vol. 9,p. 230.
There is still much work to do. Many souls around the world have never heard of the name of Jesus. Let us not neglect our duty to share the wonderful truths with those still left in darkness.
God bless,
Solange
